About Library

Nazira College is one of the leading premier higher educational institutions in Assam. The college is located at Sub-Division of Nazira, District Sivasagar, Assam, about 19 Km.from Sivasagar Town, 3 Km. from Simaluguri Railway Junction and 78 Km. from Jorhat Airport.

Nazira is a historical town on the bank of river Dikhow in Sivasagar District of Assam. It is said that the boats used to rest in this place after long journey through the river. Nazira was an important place during the regime of Ahom Kingdom. Nearby Gargaon was the capital of Ahom Kingdom over a long period. The Kareng Ghar a palace from the medieval period built by the king Rajeswar Singha, 2 Km. away from the Nazira town. During the British rule, tea plantation was started in and around Nazira .It was the headquarter of famous Assam Tea Company.

The Nazira College affiliated to Dibrugarh University; was established on the 16th December 1981 with a view to promoting higher education at Nazira and its surrounding areas. The college came under the deficit grants in aid system of Govt. of Assam in 1996 and under provincialisation Act 2005. The college has left no stone unturned to provide quality education to the students since its establishment.

The Nazira College Library was started with the establishment of the College in the year 1981 (16th December). Though at the very beginning of the college, there was no separate library room, after some years, a separate room was provided near to the teachers’ common room. The College Library was started with the gift books. Some books were also procured every year with student’s fee. Later on, the college came under Section 2(f) & 12 (B) of U.G.C. Act 1956 on 29/01/2004 and received separate grants from UGC under various schemes for purchasing the books, journals & equipments time to time.

The complete separate Nazira College Central Library building has come into existence from 09.10.2004. The then MP Drupad Borgohain inaugurated the library building which was built from the MP fund. The library is extended now with two storied building with the assistance of UGC Xth and XIIth Plan.

The library is automated with SOUL 2.0 Version developed by INFLIBNET Centre (An Inter University Centre) Ahmedabad. The College Library is globally connected through Internet connectivity. . The Digital Library is started in 2016. The library has DELNET ,NDLI and N-LIST membership ( “National Library and Information Services infrastructure for Scholarly Content) through which the users can access freely worlds authentic scholarly journals and e-books.
